MY FATHER’S SHADOW by Akinola Davies Jr (Nigeria/UK/Ireland)

“An extraordinary painting of fatherhood set at a time of dramatic upheaval in Nigerian society. The artful interplay of sound and picture lends majesty to the central drama of two young sons’ love for their dad. The film serves as a love letter to a family embroiled in the chaos and turmoil of a military coup. The outstanding performance of the cast – and especially of the two young boys – highlights the deep human dimension the African continent is able to preserve even in such difficult circumstances.”
