Mashariki is an organization that amplifies African stories through film. Through its sharp vision of using cinema as a creative language and a cultural component, Masharaki builds ground for existing and upcoming creatives. One film breakthrough at a time. The organization is made up of two parts: as an annual film festival and a leader in arts projects and initiatives.
For more than five years, Mashariki has identified talented and budding filmmakers and given them a platform to showcase their works for reputable industry professionals. It has remarkably raised the standards of cinema in Rwanda and the region through workshops, training, exposure and competitions.
Despite a lack of word-class resources and tools of cinematography, Mashariki believes in and supports young, passionate filmmakers in all its capacity. Every year, the organization provides free training and lasting mentorship to filmmakers and actors, and highlights works of women in cinema.
